Holly Meadows Public School

Holly Meadows Elementary school is located in Simcoe County in Ontario, Canada.  They pride themselves, in putting their students first and foremost and in following the set of standards made by the Simcoe County District School Board.

They embrace all races, religions and cultural lines openly in the school.  They believe that the principles of integrity, responsibility, corporation, respect, optimism, honesty, empathy and courage are very important to students, as well as our community.

When it comes to safety, they put the students and facility first.  They work together to hold drills periodically so that everyone can remain safe. Some of these include shelter in place, hold and secure, lock down, and fire drills. You can read more about these in the Safety section on their website.

The school also looks out for the safety of individual students by ensuring that staff is safe and that students sign out at the office upon departure. Police partnership is important,  as they take pride in having a great relationship with local police.  Holly Meadows believes that the children can be safer and happier.

In the event of a medical accident, Holly has the proper first aid equipment available. Those students with medical conditions are looked after on an individual basis, and provided for as needed.

If a child does not report to school due to a medical condition, Holly asks that parents make a call to the office and let them know about the problems. Accountability is a vital role schools play in a child's safety.  If they do not hear from you in the event of an absence, Holly Meadows will make a telephone call home to ensure that everything is okay with the child.  They call this their Safe Arrival System.

When it comes to classes and extracurricular programs, they offer a range and ensure that volunteers and staff are perfect for the positions. Extracurricular activities are a great way to build social skills in students and they are a chance for students to find out who they really are. To find out what after school activities they have for your little one, give the office a call.

Another vital part of diversity in Holly school starts with their student council. Student council is made up of parents, community representatives and teachers that look to bring happiness, participation and well-being into the lives of their students.  They find ways to promote growth and administer to the school.

We encourage parents to get involved and make a difference in their child's life as well their communities.

Bear Creek Secondary School

Looking to Know More About - Bear Creek Secondary School?

A public secondary school located in Barrie, Ontario, Bear Creek Secondary School (BCSS) offers grades 9-12. It was founded in 2001 and its current enrollment is 1400 students. As well as its academic curriculum, the school also focuses on athletics, offering many sports programs (as well as other activities and clubs) and character education, with its Commit to Character program. This program emphasizes the development of universal traits that help build a better society. Another of Bear Creek Secondary’s goals is to improve its students overall well-being through its Student Achievement and Well-being plan. Their credo is that the school must serve and respect students, staff, parents and community, who are all integral elements of the culture of the school.

The Commit to Character program aims to transcend racial, religious, socio-economic and cultural lines, by teaching positive traits that are universal, such as integrity, responsibility, cooperation, caring, respect, optimism, honesty, empathy, courage, and inclusiveness. Such traits help to build a welcoming and inclusive school, as well as benefit the wider community. The ten traits were selected with the help of community leaders, organizations and school communities.
Bear Creek Secondary’s Student Achievement and Well-Being plan aims to promote a community of support for students where they can feel comfortable expressing their feelings, thoughts, and emotions about issues that many teens deal with on a regular basis. It emphasizes areas of mental, emotional and psychological well-being, and provides resources for students and parents to deal with some of the tough issues that are common in the student body. As well as its regular program BCSS offers an alternative program for students who need a tailored approach to their education.

Athletics are very popular at BCSS, with different sports offered in different seasons, from badminton to basketball to cheerleading to rugby, and many more. As well as sports, a range of clubs and activities are offered, to suit nearly every student’s needs and interests. Offering these activities is another way BCSS aims to promote the well-being of its students beyond academic achievement. For students who can’t afford the costs associated with some of these activities, financial assistance is available—in line with BCSS’s philosophy of inclusion.

The aim of achieving the well-being and success of its student body cannot be accomplished without partnership with parents. Another goal of the staff of BCSS is to empower parents to make a meaningful contribution to their children’s education by creating partnerships and keeping parents informed about the progress of their children. Some of the tools used to keep parents informed include access to their children’s grades through an online portal, as well as attendance information. Parents can receive daily, weekly, or monthly email alerts for attendance information.

Bear Creek Secondary School has a number of other programs and resources available for its students, as well as many facilities to offer. The education offered at BCSS helps its students achieve academic success—and so much more.
